The Chloe Paddington has definitely superseded all those other bags which were once the it-bag. Balenciaga Lariat, the Fendi Baguette, or Gucci’s Jackie bag – they caused a stir in their day, but were somewhat accessible – even if you had to pull a some magic to get one. Not so for Chloe. This bag has sold out before a single one has made it to the boutique’s shelves.
Due to the exceptionally high demand for this item, I suggest you don’t even start obsessing about this bag – unless you want to engage in absurd Ebay bidding wars over a genuine specimen with Paddington fanatics, of course. Apparently, each of the 8000 Paddingtons produced for Spring/Summer ‘05 has been accounted for for months now.
It is undoubtedly the perfect bag for girls who like the worn-in, slouchy look. The practicality of the padlock on the 14″ handbag is questionable, it adds extra weight to an already pretty heavy bag. The zips on both sides are quite thick and not that easy to operate, especially when you’re carrying it on your shoulder. But if Kate Bosworth can do it, you can too. Any little bit of wear will show on canvas, starting with the corners and creases and then it will eventually spread. It does not mean that I have not tried many canvas bags before, and while they got dirty, I treated them as carefully as possible so they could still look nice over time. And while there are so many reasons why you should not own a canvas bag, every spring and resort time I am drawn to them. It must be the pairing of different materials and the contrast of colors. I am not putting it on my wishlist but the Chloe Tote but the color combination of olive and oatmeal pairs together magnificently. The Andy is a new shape for Chloe Bags; handheld, small, and young. I am not sold on the Andy, not sold on the materials, but I do profess my love of the color combination. There is a zip around the bottom to expand, two zipped pockets at the sides, and a zipped pocket on the inside.

Everybody knows that a bag is so perfectly in tune with your personal taste that you can’t help but think it was made just for you, and that’s this Popular Chloe Leather Bag. The Chloe Bag might just be that bag for me, so excuse me if I gush and drool a little.

I suppose the crystals could be adding the price tag. But I am assuming that is also the process of making this bag which goes that.

I have done this with quite a few bags in my collection, including my Hermes Birkins. I actually like this clutch. It is refreshing and adds materials that we do not usually see in the handbag world. But as much as anyone can tell you this is an investment piece, the price tag is really exorbitant. Crochet will show wear much easier as well, especially in a cream color. And then what if you loose a crystal. That would personally drive me nuts.
While there is a gold-tone frame and internal pouch pocket, I wonder if the crochet body will start to sag a bit over time. You have to note that in the stock images it will be set up as perfectly as possible yet it still appears to slouch a bit from some angles. I still love the idea of this clutch and materials used together, but the overall product is a bit lackluster and too expensive for me. Buy through Net A Porter for $2,360.

I continue to see the Chloe Marcie Bag on both Katie Holmes and Jessica Alba, which prompted another look at the latest hit from Chloe. Every time I see a Chloe bag or even their logo, the initial thought that pops into my mind is the weight of the bag. Anyone who has owned the once coveted Paddington knows that the weight of the bag was a talking point. Rightfully so, as the leather of the bag was very thick and heavy and the signature padlock sent the weight of the bag over-the-top. So when we are introduced to a new Chloe bag, I have a hard time putting aside past thoughts and looking at it with a clean slate.
But I will try. When Amanda first reviewed the Marcie it was the hobo version, she gave it a positive review. And here comes another positive review, because the larger version, which I keep spotting on the celebs, is also a beautiful bag. The lines are clean and sleek, yet rounded and feminine. I love how the wrapped-detail handle adds a new dimension. And with fall relying on camel and neutral hued colors, this bag is a perfect option. I kind of love it and I never feel like Chloe lets anyone down with the quality of their materials. Buy via Net A Porter for $1,790.

Perfumers are hired to create perfumes by fashion houses, whose “creative teams,” usually a group of marketers, direct the perfumers in making the juices: “a little sweeter, please,” “no, less floral,” “can you boost the wood in the dry-down?” They also make the final call — “It’s this one” — and there’s the perfume. Perfume-making thus functions very much according to the weakest link theory: the scent is only as good as any given team member’s worst decision.

An exception can occur when someone very talented is able to overcome a mediocre vision. In the perfume industry, Michel Almairac is an artist and artisan of talent and depth, though Almairac’s talents, like every perfumer’s, function inside the parameters of the brands for which he creates. He has made the lovely, ethereal, and beautifully strange Ambrette 9 for Le Labo, the immense innovative hit masculine Farenheit for Dior, the utterly worthless testosterone-filled drugstore masculine Kiton, a stunningly innovative modernist work of art, Gucci Rush, and Voleur de Roses for l’Artisan parfumeur, a delicately luminous perfume of roses macerated in twilight.

Chloé asked Almairac, along with the perfumer Amandine Marie, to make Chloé, which launches exclusively at Saks on February 1. One instantly smells the weak link: the Chloé creative team. Here is a serious fashion house launching a perfume that has absolutely no business representing it. Not only is Chloé an uninteresting, clichéd floral — why are houses still launching saccharine, vaguely unidentifiable composite flowers? — it smells like a perfume masquerading as a fabric softener. What’s worse is that there are some good fabric softener scents out there; this smells cheap and slightly chemical. What went wrong? If pressed, I’d guess from the scent that the Chloé creative team gave Almairac and Marie around $20/lb for formula (i.e. the total cost of the raw materials they can put into 1 pound of pure perfume) to work with. It’s a price that places out of reach all expensive raw materials like Bulgarian rose attar. (It’s hard to do a good scent for under $40 per lb, even harder when it’s a floral.) That this juice smells synthetic is one thing. The graver problem is that it has no depth, no character, no daring, no personality. But the house made the final call. And here’s Chloé.
